Product Description

Through the use of hydroformed aluminum and astute, calculated geometry, Diamondback could already consider its rightful place reclaimed. However, not one to rest on its laurels, Diamondback sought to improve upon its XC platform by sprinkling some carbon fiber into the mix. In fact, it pulled heavy influence from its lauded Podium road series for this mission. As a result, the Overdrive Carbon Complete Mountain Bike was born. It's not just ready for all-mountain, it's race ready. Using the same geometry as the aluminum Overdrive, Diamondback constructed this frame using its Advanced Monocoque Molding Process (AMMP). The monocoque process means that carbon plies are hand wrapped around a polystyrene pre-formed core. This core is designed using a plastic bladder in the shape of the tubing segment. And to ensure that the mold is precise during the layup process, the emerging product is surrounded with a plastic cavity. Silicone mandrel shells are then used to reinforce critical joints such as the head tube and bottom bracket, as they create smoother overlapping carbon fibers at these junctures. The final product is a one-piece frame, not a series of tubes that are joined in a separate process. As a result, the frame provides a stiff, responsive, and agile ride quality, which is further enhanced through the incorporation of a 12x142mm thru-axle compatibility. And furthering this concept, Diamondback also included post-mount disc tabs and a tapered head tube. The latter increases torsional stiffness, which creates precise steering and maneuverability. The geometry of the Overdrive Carbon was perfected for cross country racing. The sloping top tube provides optimal stand-over clearance. Meanwhile, a 71 degree head angle, combined with a 73 degree seat tube angle, provides a very aggressive geometry that's geared towards hard power transfers. I don't leave many reviews but thought this was needed as no other reviews were available.
I received this bike a few days ago, bought it the day it went live on amazon.
I'm so glad I did go for this brand and this particular bike, what a machine! and before going further.....the price!!!
easily half of any other major brands out there for the equivalent! Ive tried the giant etc... and could not feel any better than on this one. The workmanship looks great and all components feel strong and well build
I am going about 4 miles per hour faster than on my 2014 giant defy which is exceptional, I don't have much wind resistance compare to the others and it seems the bike goes when you want it to! maybe its the carbon frame or aerodynamic? regardless its a breeze to go.
I ride alone most of the time and are so happy to have chosen this new kind of bikes more appropriate for us out there.

High Value - Full Carbon - Entry Level Price

Strengths:

Very polished, rides true. Came in just under 20 lbs including pedals with the 105 group set. For the new 2013 model, Oval 327 wheels are much improved over the Oval 524's from prior year. Smooth shifting, good looking. 2013 color is white on black. Over 250 miles, no issues. 2013 version has the blended carbon of 700K & 800K. Previous year version was 700k carbon only. The 2013 105 group set is clearly high value in this price range. The 327 Wheels are standard on Fuji Bikes that retail for $3000. I'm big guy , right at the max weight limit of 275 pounds - this bike handles me with ease - plenty of stiffness, efficient power transfer. Down in the Georgia flat lands near Savannah, I was easily cruising at 18/19 mph. Full carbon frame, with a heavy duty bonded rear triangle that let you maximize your power transfer with little flex. Excellent carbon frame for us Clydesdale ( cyclists over 200 pounds)

Weaknesses: Needed to upgrade the brake calipers to the 105's ( especially with my weight when going downhill). Also upgraded the tires to gatorskins, since i really do not like dealing with flats every month or so. The point is you will always be making upgrades as you see the need - but you have a great base to build from and upgrade over time.

Bottom Line:

Great entry level full carbon bike at very modest investment. You will be hard pressed to find a better value. A well deserved 5 stars. One more point - the bike has a unique and very aerodynamic frame. When Kestrel started the carbon bike industry in the 80's, they hired military aerospace engineers, that's why even today, they offer a limited lifetime warranty on their frames and forks ( excludes crashes obviously).

2013 Kestrel Talon Shimano 105 Carbon Fiber 55CM Bike

It came a day after I ordered it (super fast) in a beat up box which was patched-up and re-taped, I was worried there for a while until I finished unpacking. It turned out that it was packed pretty good with foam and zip ties. It took me about an hour since it is more in pieces than a Schwinn road bike I put together about a week ago. So far I am happy with this sharp looking and very light bike (18.6 lbs without the pedals and front brake calipers) that I haven't ridden yet since it did not come with pedals and the pedals I ordered won't be here for another 3 days. I will update my review as soon as I have ridden the bike.

5/2/2013 Update - The Bike is great but the rear tire was punctured by a paper staples from the road and had a flat tire at mile 46...might have to invest on a better tire.

But, if you were of the fairer sex, you were stuck changing multiple parts in the hope that a bike not designed with your needs in mind would work. Juli Furtado is making sure that this issue no longer exists with the Juliana Joplin Carbon Primeiro. What was once a lone model in a sea of testosterone-fueled mountain bikes, Juliana is now a new division of Santa Cruz, led by non-other than Mountain Bike Hall of Fame inductee and multi-championship winning Juli Furtado. This means that each model meets her expectations -- not Joe Sixpack. If you take a look at the saddle, bars, and cranks of this Joplin Carbon Primeiro you'll see that they're sized proportionally for female riders. This allows you to enjoy the benefits of a carbon fiber 29er out of the box. One of those carbon advantages, aside from the obvious -- weight -- is it allows the frame to offer superior line-holding stiffness. The front triangle is constructed as once piece. Rather than have components produced separately, and then bonded or wrapped, the carbon fibers are continuous around tube junctions to distribute loads and absorb impact energy better. One thing that you can't see without cutting the frame in half is that it looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside. There's nothing there except smooth carbon, this actually prevents stress risers in failure prone areas of the frame. For that reason too, there are no riveted or bonded-on cable and hose guides--they're incorporated into the original layup. That layup provides stiff and solid mounting points for the latest generation of VPP rear suspension. The upper and lower links flatten out the shock rate and provide a more active feel to the early part of the axle path.
