Product Description
The dictionary defines recoil as Inch to spring or come
back; react. Inch The Diamondback Recoil takes that definition to heart.
Whether it is flying down the wide open trail or making its way through twisty
tight single track, the Recoil Comp will react to what is under its tires and
then spring back and be ready to take on what comes next. 29 inch wheels. The
larger diameter wheel is taking over, and with good reason.
The foundation for this is firmly laid with an all-new 6061
T-6 Aluminum Trail frame sporting 4 Inch of travel via the RockShox Monarch R
air rear shock (more on this later). The frame uses a machine formed top tube
and a butted and formed down tube sharing tubing from our nicer Sortie series.
It uses a sealed cartridge bearing pivot and is built around an optimized
single pivot design which is the simplest type of rear suspension because there
are few moving parts. It consists of a pivot just above the bottom bracket,
slightly up on the down tube and a single swingarm to the rear axle. Being that
the rear triangle directly attaches to the rear shock, the shock has a more
linear spring rate and offers good small bump compliance.
Larger wheels are not the only improvement made to the 2013
Diamondback Recoil Pro 29. We've added a RockShox Monarch R air rear shock to
compliment the Rock Shox Recon Silver 29 fork. This fork features rebound
dampening adjust and a turnkey lock out. The lockout allows the rider to limit
the travel to enhance your climbing experience.
The Shimano SL-M430 Rapidfire 9-speed shifters control an
Alivio front and an Deore rear derailleur. Combined with and the HG30 9-spd
Cassette (11-32t) combined with the Shimano FCM-521 9-spd Octalink crankset (
22/32/44t) give you 24 mountain crushing gears to choose from.

Recoil Pro
By B. OBannon
I bought this bike from the local bike shop about a month
ago along with a Bontrager wireless computer. Currently, I have over 120 miles
on this bike. For about $1500(taxes/etc), you get a great 29er bike with full
suspension(air shocks front AND rear both with lockouts), 27 speed, 180/160
rotor-hydraulic brakes, wide handlebar and great performance. I rode it home
from the bike shop as my bike carrier wouldn't fit(I now own the Highland
Sportwing rack that carries bikes by the wheels instead of the frame and it
works perfectly!) and found I did not like the seat. Therefore, I have replaced
the seat with my old Bell Gel that I like; It's not too wide but still soft and
comfy for long rides without the need for padded biker shorts. In the time I've
own this bike, I took it back to the shop once to readjust the shifting
mechanism for the rear as it was hanging/jumping gears. I could've done this
myself, but, since it's under warranty I decided to let the shop take care of
it. I am now convinced I will keep the bike and have since drilled/tapped for a
water bottle cage underneath the main frame(my ONLY complaint). Now, for the
good stuff: I've rode this bike day/night on streets, dirt roads, rock trails,
sandy areas, soft farmground, through mud, in one foot of water, in the pouring
rain, on rocky technical stuff, across the thick grass at the park, and pretty
much anywhere else you can think of in that time period. Before this bike, I
had a 26" full suspension, box-store Schwinn S25 which I bought new Geax
tires, ProMax Rim Brake Pads, and a used Manitou air shock for the rear which I
had rode the same way. This is a NIGHT and DAY difference! My favorite
improvement has been the rotor-hydra brakes over the old rim brakes! No more
mud/rock-gouging problems on my rims/brake pads. They squeaked a few times when
they were new but I have not had one "peep" of noise out of them
since! I miss the "nimble" 26" at times. BUT, the more I ride
this bike, the more I like it! I also rode my friend's full suspension 26"
Cannondale(a NICE bike) and I find this to be very competitive in nature. Just
because this isn't a $3000 bike, doesn't mean this is a pile of junk. It has
been a very good investment from my point of view. Again, other than the lack
of a factory provision for a water bottle cage, I've found this to be a very
good performer at everything I've done. Granted, I am not flying through the
air every day; I did, however, get airborne about 3-4' high and about 10-12'
long on a downhill portion at roughly 30mph. I felt in complete control the
whole time. As for the factory, stock WTB Wolverine tires, they have not let me
down yet. They do not feel bumpy/knobby on smooth roads and have not let go
when I was in hard turns on dirt. Oh, I forgot to mention that my local bike
shop installed HD thorn-resistant tubes AND cut the original tubes to wrap
around the HD ones with no slime installed. I've had NO flats thus far; Again,
I've rode this bike everywhere and I know I've pulled stickers, thorns, etc.
out of my tires after rides. I do plan to install slime anyway just to be sure
when I go places that are far from home. Another interesting note that you may
be interested in is the weight. I took 2 different, digital bathroom scales and
they both produced the same results. When I balanced the bike on the rear wheel
the best I can several times, the weight was an approx 38 pounds. Remember, it
is basically stock with a plastic bottle cage and HD tubes/stock tubes. Yes,
this is considered heavy to the "hardcore" group but I've not had a
problem with it. It gives me a good workout and I've had to carry this bike up
some rocky cliffs I couldn't ride without problems. I suppose it might be about
5-7 pounds lighter if I were to use normal tubes, replace the pedals and
handlebar with carbon fiber. However, at this point in my life, I'm not
concerned about making things easy on me in regards to lightweight equipment. I
want durability and, thus far, this bike has done a great job for the price!
Finally, I would also mention that I've not seen another one on the trails
anywhere I've been. But, I've gotten lots of interest, compliments, and
head-turn/double takes as I ride this thing. I hope this review helps you as I
was desperate for one when I was considering this bike for purchase. It's been
a great value considering what you get for the money.

Diamondback Recoil Pro 29er Owners Assessment
By Michael S. Hanson
The Recoil Pro 29er is smooth, solid, quiet, and
comfortable. It shifts crisply, brakes precisley, rolls effortlessly, and
glides over the rocks and uneven terrain with the 29" wheels and Rock Shox
Suspension. I was concerned about the seat and how comfortable that was going
to be. I was again, pleasantly surprised! This bike is an excellent "bang
for the buck" spent. For those people who demand quality and don't have a
huge budget, this is a great bike for you. I am one well satisfied owner!

Great Bike for the money
By David Koegel
I love this bike all but the noisy front disc brake. Ride
like a dream and came assembled and tuned just had to put bars on and inflate
the tires and shocks.
